Business of the Year Winner!!

tame updated 2011

TAME Pet Magazine - TAME has always been passionate about animals! We began fostering and helping adopt out rescues several years ago when we realized how many homeless and abused pets there are in our area. (And how much work was needed to truly make a difference.) Out of that realization we created Pets & Pumpkins now in our 4th year - to help raise money and awareness for rescue organizations to reach out to the community. TAME has raised thousands of dollars through Pets & Pumpkins to helps rescues which we are really happy about!! TAME utilizes our community involvement to help local efforts, and our staff personally fosters for various rescue groups in the area. While we have learned a that there are a lot of babies needing homes, we have also learned that there are some amazing people out there too! This has made fostering so rewarding for TAME in the near 30 animals we have helped to save. To check out TAME Pet Magazine, visit: www.tamepetmag.com

Volunteer of the Year Winner!!

Kristy Ritter – Kristy has worked with rescues for the last few years assisting with transports and promoting animals to help increase adoption/rescue rates. Kristy felt that something was missing in her life, but since she got involved in rescue, she feels that void has been filled. Kristy manages Halfway Home Rescue’s facebook account and also promotes the dogs at our local Springfield animal control. She helps promote these animals to potential adopters, rescues across the country, and also with working out transports if needed. Kristy is very proud of the fact that in just one year Springfield animal control has gone from 90% kill rate to a 95% save rate – a big factor being the ability to network for these animals to find a foster home, rescue, or forever home. Kristy hopes people will understand the importance of spay/neuter in hopes that one day we will see a no kill nation. Inspirational Rescue Story of the Year Winner!!

  Maggie

Maggie – Maggie is an inspirational story of recovery AND of rescues working together. Maggie’s story begins at the Excelsior Springs Animal Control where she came in as a stray with an extreme case of mange. One of BSRO’s foster families stepped up to foster Maggie until she was healed and adopted. Maggie traveled to a clinic in Blue Springs where she started her mange treatment. From there she was transported to Clinton, MO and then to Springfield where she charmed the family who had helped with the transport, and they asked to foster her. Maggie went home with them and continued her treatment. With a combination of ivomectrin, good food, fish oil, coconut oil, and neem shampoo (all purchased at Ultimate Pet except the ivomectrin) Maggie quickly recovered from her manage. Maggie’s story doesn’t end here. Once the mange healed, Maggie experienced complications from her spay and ended up having to be hospitalized due to excessive bleeding. The cause of this is still not known but Maggie finally recovered. Maggie surprised us all by ending up being a beautiful brindle girl (we didn’t know what her coat color was due to the mange) who is happily residing with her new schnauzer brother (also a BSRO dog).  Her foster family describes her as a joy and pleasure to have around. Maggie’s story could have stopped at the animal control if they had not reached out to rescue for help. It could have also stopped when the rescue contacted had no room. But, her story didn’t stop. Maggie is a testament to the ability of shelters and rescues to work together to help an amazing animal.
