295, 723 - the number of dogs that ended up in animal control/shelters in Missouri in 2008 alone

193,001 - the number of dogs that ended up in animal control/shelters in Missouri in 2007

102,722 - the increased number of dogs that ended up on animal control  death row in 2008 vs. 2007 

2,326 - the number of additional adoptions vs. the 102,722 increase in death row dogs

70-90% - the euthanization rate for surrounding animal control facilities in our area

-Black dogs are the last to be adopted statistically.

-Pitbulls are the first to be euthanized.

-Of the 74.8 million dogs in the U.S., only 10% were adopted.

-Pitbulls test better on a temperament test than border collies.

-Cocker spaniels have the highest number of recorded bite cases.

 

How can you help make a difference & save a life?

 *Sponsor a dog….although we have a great vet that helps us out (Galloway Village Veterinary) - medical care is still a huge expense for KF. When we get a healthy dog (which realistically is never), we will lose $50+ when they are adopted. All of the dogs we’ve saved this year have had kennel cough requiring antibiotics, many have upper respiratory infections and/or pneumonia, ear infections, fleas, ticks, fevers, torn tendons, grooming needs, and some have even had parvo. All of this adds up to be very expensive for us, and when you sponsor a dog - all of that money goes directly to the vet care for that dog to ensure his/her health before their forever family adopts them.

 *Foster a dog….since we don’t have a shelter, we can only save as many dogs as we have open foster homes. We have an inventory each foster fills out to let us know what type of dog they would like to help - age, breed, size, gender, etc. This ensures we can match up our foster families with the best foster dogs so everyone has a good experience as part of the Killuminati Foster Network.

 

 *Join the Killuminati BARC! program….BARC! stands for Business and Rescue Coalition. BARC! is a new program for businesses and organizations to get involved helping rescues find new homes! (The more people each dog has working to find its forever home - the better!) The great part is that it costs you nothing but your time. We are looking for businesses or groups to join BARC! and support a dog by your team members networking to help a rescue find its forever home. You can post their information in your lobby/meeting space, send emails, texts, post your dog on facebook, foster your BARC! dog, or even have the dog on site during business hours or for events.
